Why Sex blogging?

The reason that some people start a sex blog is to post erotica. If you are an aspiring writer, you want to get your erotic writing out there. A blog makes that very easy. You can get feedback instantly and without paying someone to give you feedback, and you can get your name out there. Plus, it’s extremely easy to publish on a blog while it’d be much harder to edit your story for an e-book or submit it for publication with an adult publishing company.

Are you wondering if you should take that next step?

Well why not go for it, sex blogging is so much fun and also very liberating. It can help you express yourself and to grow in confidence. It can also help other people on their journey through life to improve their own sex lives with the benefit of your wisdom and advice. Blogging about sex is a great way to express yourself and it can be done anonymously as lets face it most of us wouldn’t have it any other way.

Where do I begin?

Right you have made the decision that you are going to start your own sex blog and change the world for the better but now you are asking yourself where do I begin. Well the first decision that you have to make is do I have a hosted blog on an online service such as WordPress or tumblr or do you jump in at the deep end? The answer to that question is complicated. But in essence if you want to look professional then you are going to at least need your own domain name.

In essence you will need the following:

  • Blogging Platform
  • Domain Name
  • Domain Name Privacy (very important)
  • Hosting Company

I chose to put choosing a blogging platform first as that will dictate what type of hosting you need and once you have decided on that it will then be time to choose a host and to register a domain name.

There are lots of different blogging platforms available from hosted ones like WordPress or Tumblr to self hosted content management systems (CMS) like Joomla and self hosted WordPress.

Choosing a domain name

Whilst choosing your domain name can be a daunting process but it needn’t be, get a notepad and pen and start jotting down words that describe you or what you are trying to achieve then start joining some of the words together. You can then use a domain name checker to check its availability as after all someone else may have beaten you too it.

You usually register your domain name through the hosting company that you choose to host your site and make sure that you opt for ‘WHOIS’ privacy as without it anyone can simply look up your details online as they will be public and then arrive on your doorstep – not a good move. You can add WHOIS privacy to the following types of domain name:

  • .biz
  • .bz
  • .cc
  • .co
  • .com
  • .info
  • .me
  • .mobi
  • .name
  • .net
  • .org
  • .tel
  • .tv
  • .ws

I would recommend opting for a ‘.com’ domain name simply because you can add privacy to it and also your blog and advice will be of interest to everyone globally so why tie yourself down to a country specific domain name. You could still opt for a country specific domain name but check that you can opt into domain privacy before registering it.

Choosing a hosting company

This is the bit where I tell you to read the small print. Always check out a hosts terms and conditions as most don’t allow adult content and will close your blog and not refund your fees if they find it on their servers. The host that I used is based in the Netherlands and you can host XXX content with them if you like. I can strongly recommend Vimexx Hosting which is the company that I use.

How many posts should I start with?

In my honest opinion keep your blog to yourself until you get at least four or five posts on it as that way when you start to get your first visitors things don’t look so blank and with that number fo posts visitors will be able to get a feeling for your writing style and message. Once you are ready to release your blog on the world then you can get on with writing good content and then marketing it to get readers.
