Bolga Basket

We haven't met anyone yet who doesn't adore these baskets. Handwoven using locally-grown straw, this beautiful basket is inherently sturdy, making it a reliable, multi-functional asset for the home. Some uses: magazines, toys, bounty from the garden, local fruits and veggies from the farmers market... and napping cats. Crafted in a fair trade cooperative in Ghana.

Each basket is one of a kind, colors and patterns vary. Dimensions: medium: 16" diameter; 13" height

Our Bolga baskets are produced by a fair trade weaving cooperative in rural, northern Ghana where basket weaving is the traditional handicraft. Founded in 1995, the co-op works to improve the standard of living for its weaver members, 90% of whom are women. Profits are reinvested in training workshops, and partner NGO's provide literacy and mathematics courses that benefit the weavers far beyond the sale of their baskets.
